Clove Gum!?

Have you ever heard about or tasted clove gum? Richard and I picked up a pack while visiting south Florida last month. Neither of us were that crazy about it. It kind of reminded me of being at the dentist!

Oh, that is so retro! I remember it from when I was a kid. It sort of makes your mouth numb. And, it has sugar in it, not recommended by 4 out of 5 dentists.

I've never seen clove gum but do remember seeing a sign in a Bellevue, WA restaurant that said "no smoking/no clove smoking" To this day I don't know what that meant.

Hmmmm... cinnamon, okay. But clove?

Jennifer, the would have been referring to clove cigarettes. I don't know if they consider those a healthier alternative or not. Yuck!!

Clove cigarettes. Very popular in Asia and with some people in the US.

Oh, wow, we used to get Clove gum all the time when I was a kid back in the Stone Age (the '50s)! We also had Fan Tan gum, which kind of tasted like perfume, and Black Jack which was (and still is) a great licorice flavor.

It's true, they all have sugar in them, so this ex-dental hygienist wouldn't recommend them, but they were certainly favorites in the pre-sugarless gum era.

Yes I do. I thought Thrills was supposed to fool your parents if you were smoking...supposedly they wouldn't be able to smell your breath. Am I right?
