I came across this posting on Pinterest last week and it really piqued my interest! As kids, when my parents were working (they had an ad agency in our house, starting in the mid-'60s), from time-to-time, they had to hit the road to see clients, so we kids got to eat TV dinners. Ya-hoo! But we never had Banquet brand; we always had Swanson TV Dinners.
Yup, just like this. I remember that turquoise logo. But ours always had some sort of apple-like dessert.
More like this. But we rarely got the fried chicken dinner. Generally, it was sliced turkey with gravy (I loved that) or...
...more likely this one. The Salisbury Steak Dinner. But wait! Ours never had soup.
That would have been really high end.
Now this is more like it! (Although I don't remember that fancy-shmancy cobbler.) |

I really wonder who photographed those T.V. dinners in the first place?? Also, I bet the soup never thawed properly. My guess is it didn't last for that reason.
We always had chicken pot pie. And then we saved the tins for playing with! Did you get chicken pot pie, too? It had those same square carrots.
I'm having a big ol' sixties flashback right now - I can almost taste that turkey and gravy like it was yesterday.
I remember eating a Swanson TV dinner on a "TV tray" in front of the TV. We kids loved it and thought that this would be the way everyone ate in the future. You are right - the ones with dessert were best.
I am reasonably certain that the first time I ever had "Apple Brown Betty" it came in a Swanson TV dinner.
You know, come to think of it.... that might be the only time I ever had Apple Brown Betty.
My god, these bring back to many memories! I usually had TV dinners on Saturday after getting back from an overnight at my Dad's. It was a treat for me!
We never had TV dinners at our home when I was a kid but I had a friend who often did.I always looked forward to having a Swanson dinner at her house. My kids have had plenty of frozen entrees under my admin.including the famous Swanson turkey dinner( my favourite).
