Made My Hair Stand on End!

I made it into Richard's newspaper last week...but didn't realize that it was windy, or that I was having a bad hair day...or both. All for a good cause, so what the heck.

Christmas Celebrating

Part of our gang at The Glengarry News got together for a photo at our annual Christmas party on Saturday. 

 The gals got together to ham it up.

Richard and I were sharing some sort of secret. Actually, our publisher showed a sequence from the film The Paper and Richard and I were critiquing it...I think.

Cover Girl

I had one of those "gak!" moments yesterday at work. I had gone into the archives and pulled out several weeks of newspapers from 10 years ago to put together the "Auld Lang Syne" column that appears weekly in our paper. Yesterday, I opened the drawer and EGADS! There I was starring back at myself on the front page of the paper!

In the Middle of the Night

The phone rang for Richard in the middle of the night, or at least 11:30 p.m. which seemed almost like the middle of the night, saying there was a fire in Hawkesbury and he should get over there quickly.

I decided to join him as he shot some photos for his newspaper and I watched from the sidelines.

Others watched from the sidelines as well and one fellow even had an extra large double double Tim Hortons with him.

In the end, at nearly 20 to 1 a.m., we decided we were so hyped up that we'd head over to Tim's ourselves and have a cup of decaf tea.

Cake Fame

One of my cakes made it into this week's edition of The Glengarry News. Oh fame...so fleeting!

Dem Bones

To mark November, Osteoporosis month, the Ottawa Chapter of Osteoporosis Canada launched a calendar that featured my illustrations.


My job was to create a cartoon character in the shape of a bone...


...doing all sorts of bone friendly activities.


And some unfriendly activities too. I was lucky enough to be working with Natalie who did the layout and coloured my illustrations. I'm craving a glass of milk now.


We even got a mention in The Glengarry News, alongside the baby born in the car and the largest potato grown in the county. Wowza!

Shadowing Richard

Richard asked me to join him while he was covering the opening of the Chute-a-Blondeau community centre and we got to sit at the Media(s?) table. Very exciting.


It had a great view, right at the front. We got to see Pierre Lemieux, Member of Parliament for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell...


...presenting a Canadian flag to Mayor Kirby from East Hawkesbury.


And there was Jean-Marc Lalonde, Member of Provincial Parliament presenting a Franco-Ontarien flag and an Ontario flag to the gang.


I was trying to jazz up the photo from a different angle but not sure it worked so well.


After a few scintillating speeches, we headed outdoors to the official ribbon cutting ceremony where Richard was working hard.


I on the other hand was too busy picking out bits of Habs memorabilia in the crowd. The photographer standing in front of me sported a camera strap with a Montreal Canadiens 100 year logo...


...and one of the youngest celebrants was in his Bleu, Blanc et Rouge regalia. (Go Habs go!)


Okay, so back to work, Ronna. The centre itself is a lovely edifice with plenty of room for social activities.


But for me, I prefer the look of the old one that sits beside it. There's a certain charm to this building, don't you think? If these walls could talk and all that. It's slated for demolition. Progress...

Cub Reporter

Since Richard is a reporter and can't be everywhere, from time-to-time I have had to put on my cub reporter cap and have taken some shots that have made it into the newspaper. Mostly car wrecks.


And smash ups.


And fender benders.


Sometimes people hit the brakes too late.


Or how about this truck from a few years back that was filled with TNT and missed a turn? Egads! They don't call me Scoop for nothing!

We're all ready for Art Fayre to be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum in Dunvegan. I'm looking forward to it.

Show Me the Money

The generous folks at the Alexandria branch of the Scotiabank, matched funds raised during the 3 hour period in which they volunteered at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum's Annual Booksale. This photo ran in this week's Glengarry News. (I'm the tall one in the middle!)

Well, I made the big time! Here's an article that ran in our local newspaper. Look out New York Times. (P.S. I really didn't sell everything at the show, but it sure sounds good, doesn't it? Just proves the old adage, don't believe everything you read.)
