Yesterday saw a quick jaunt into Hull, QC to the Museum of Civilization to see the exhibit The Horse. Was quite good. On the way out, we walked around the rest of the museum and I remembered how much I loved this sculpture by Bill Reid.

Meanwhile outside we sat at the cafe while sparrows begged for crumbs.
The warm weather has really brought out the best in my hollyhocks this year. My little patch features a myriad of colours...
...shades of crimson...
...and darker maroon...
...peachy tones...
...knockout whites...
...pale purple...
...and bright pink.
It's so hot that when I opened the box of yesterday's donuts at work, both the chocolate and the butterscotch had hemorrhaged all over the inside of the box.
My neighbour Peggi took this shot over the weekend. Three baby raccoons and their mama were scrounging in her bird feeders which hang from a Butternut tree. This little guy climbed up with a full belly and had a little mid-morning nap.

A few weeks ago, Richard and I were heading by and it was absolutely pouring rain. Plus it was 10:15 a.m. and the place opened at 11.
As we ran past the list of specials, we got inside and bought a couple of cups of coffee and met the owner. Charming fellow who was worried about customers in the deluge.
I just loved the outdoor counter seating, waiting for a dry day.
Had it been a little later, I would have tried a picnic seat under the tents that seemed to be keeping everything nice and dry. The menu of the Tail O' The Pup is full of barbecue, chicken, burgers and dogs. Click here to see it. Next time I'm in the mood for barbecue, I'm heading back here. It's only a few hours south!
Over at the Nor'Westers and Loyalist Museum in Williamstown on Saturday...
...Royce MacGillivray was busy signing his hot-off-the-presses Dictionary of Glengarry Biography at a book signing, hosted by curator Brenda Kennedy.
Lots of Scottish heritage in Glengarry County. Don't you love this t-shirt worn by a purchaser of the book?
Royce is a charming guy and I am pleased to say that my dad was one of the interesting Glengarrians who made it into the book.
Gordon and Natalie brought their 13-year-old friend Rachel over. Rachel was visiting from the U.S.A. and had never tried poutine before. Oh my!
Her request was to have kosher poutine and it was a fairly easy task. I found a tin of brown, mushroom gravy, added curds and fries and voila! Meat-free poutine.
I think Rachel really enjoyed her first taste of the stuff.
After our meal, we went outside to sit on the swing and get some fresh air.
Somehow I think feeding the chippies was more fun than eating poutine.
I headed over to the president of the Glengarry Historical Society's house the other day to get ready for the launch of the Dictionary of Glengarry Biography. He and his wife have many cats...
...plenty of space for cats on the porch too.
Inside the house, David Anderson, editor extraordinaire, was busy numbering each and every book in a classy, old style way with a crow quill pen.

Meanwhile, while we numbered and organized books, the cats around us had a good snooze.
Dreaming about countless books or mice, do you suppose?
A few weekends back, Richard and I went to Hawkesbury to see an amazing bunch of bicyclists riding from Ottawa to Montreal to raise money to fund research for childhood diseases.
Pretty intense.
After seeing those bikers, Richard and I were inspired to get some exercise so we walked across the bridge from Hawkesbury, Ontario to Grenville, Quebec. Here Richard has one foot in each province!
We happened upon Bonhomme Patate and went to check their menu.
Plenty of poutine versions but we were too early for poutine...
...so we settled for bacon and eggs.
Just watching those bikers gave us an appetite.
On Sunday, we went to the Annual Horse and Buggy Parade in Vankleek Hill.
There were big horses all dressed up...
...and little ones pulling wagons...
...and lovely braided manes and tails...
...and horses in colourful socks with riders to match...
...and environmentally conscious wagons...
...and even a horse dressed as an elephant. Wait a minute. Isn't a horse, a horse, of course?
Not for the faint of heart, the thought of dropping a live lobster into a pot of boiling water can be a bit daunting.
But 10 minutes later, the vibrant red lobsters are ready to be eaten and in my books, one of the tastiest things in the world.
You'll need a series of tools to break that shell and fish out the meat but the effort is well worth it.
Just roll up your sleeves, tie on the lobster big, be prepared to get dirty and dig in. After tasting the tender, pink meat dipped into a bit of melted butter, I'm in heaven. Defnitely in my top 10!
