Happy 150th Canada!

To celebrate Canada's 150th birthday, I made a strawberry rhubarb (both locally sourced, natch) pie, and am celebrating with my sis who's joining me from the U.S.A. It will be a Happy Canada Day indeed!

Canada Day parade in my little town

Canada Day in Alexandria, Ontario. We live in a farming community.

Goulet Septic was all dolled up.

 Fun floats.

A Pacer wagon was my best friend in the '70s. A friend and I drove to Florida in one. It had denim seats!

 Little horses.

 Big horses.

 There were even mini-goats.

Our fire department's truck was loud with its sirens blaring.

Here Richard and I waiting for candy. Natalie was striking a pose!

Canada Day Parade

Canada Day in my small town of Alexandria, Ontario.
It stated off pouring but just as the parade swung into action, it was a mere drizzle.

Three smart kids staying dry at our local restaurant.

 Lots of red and white.

 More red and white!
  A float of tires!

More red and white...this time balloons!

These folks had a room with a view!

 The kids school's float.

Farm equipment, so large it was wider than the road...just about.

Horses and dogs and kids, oh my!

 Sweet dog with two horses.

 A pint-sized caber for a pint-sized tosser!

 Our veterans.

Our town council throwing candy.

Canada Day Parade in Alexandria

My cousin, all the way from Texas, was visiting us up here in eastern Ontario. Perfect time to introduce him to our local Canada Day parade in Alexandria.

It was super hot, like 30+ Celsius so we found some shade before the parade began.

Pierre Lemieux, our federal member of parliament, sailed by in his convertible.

Then, all of a sudden Federal Liberal party leader Justin Trudeau appeared!

Major photo op ladies and gentlemen! Fun or what?

The rest of the parade was really fun. Little horses pulling tiny wagons.

Gussied up tractors, festive for the season.

Loved this float with historical Canadians aboard...

A few more horses, this time, full-sized ones!

My cousin Len posing in front of my place of work, in beautiful downtown Alexandria.

After the parade, time for ice cream!

Perfect ending to a perfect day. Happy birthday Canada!

I Love a Parade

My little town feted Canada's 146th birthday with a small town parade.
Here's our town council throwing out candy.

I see this fellow quite often driving in town. I like how he was his own float.

Lots of old vehicles on display...

The parade really drew quite a crowd!

I love this guy's headgear made of a coloured broom to look like a gladiator!

The John Deere tractor is definitely de rigueur!

 And... lots of lovely horses...

Just loved this man and  his horse and dog.
Small town parades are so much darn fun!

Canada Day Weekend

We had a very Canadian weekend on Canada Day. An Adirondack chair made of hockey sticks.

Time spent on a fresh water lake in cottage country.

Time sitting in the hot sun drinking beer.

Views of gorgeous trees and the lake from inside a cottage.

Visiting outside in the setting sun.

Travelling by boat to get to a supper invitation.

 Montreal bagels en plein air.

Jumping in the lake and staying there for the better part of the afternoon.

A piper arriving from the other side of the lake playing O Canada.

The same piper as he left at the end of the day playing a bit of Canadian rock 'n' roll.
A wonderful and memorable Canada Day weekend fer sure!
