Sue & Mike get married

Months ago, my friend Sue asked me to do her wedding cake. It was for an outdoor, summer wedding to take place at her country place. We decided  that a naked cake with fresh flowers would fit the bill.

It was perfect. The couple loved it and so did their 80 or so guests. A perfect day for a perfect couple.

There were hors d'oeuvres made by friends and served by friends.

 Those dumplings were the bomb!

The food was served in Sue's greenhouse, turned into a dining room for the occasion.

One large table to fit 75 guests, seated on covered hay bales.

The food? Oh my! Smoked turkey, ribs, pulled pork, kale salad, Turkish carrots with a garlic, yogurt sauce, bean salad, Greek salad. Wow.

It was a perfect, sunny day and a great day spent with friends.

On our way to see the cake (it stayed at Sue's sister's Sigrun's house next door because it was cool), I snapped this sweet pic of Sue.

And here are the silliest and sweetest couple ever. Happy days Sue and Mike.

Nightmare Before Christmas wedding

It's been a busy wedding season this year!
I was asked by Christina and Kristin to bake a cake for their wedding with a Nightmare Before Christmas theme. They are a very cool, creative couple Christina is a hair stylist; Kristin is a musician. As Christina said to me, you're an artist so I'll let you be inspired. Go for it. And I did.
We didn't discuss design or colour. I thought black and white with a pop of red would be elegant. Since the theme could be interpreted as a bit on the Halloween side of things, I decided to avoid orange or other colours. I wanted the cake to stand out. And stand out it did!
Turns out the bridesmaids were all dressed in red and the decor under the tent was red and white. Score! The cake fit in perfectly. A good time was had by all and the cake was devoured by 150 guests.

Miriam & Eric's wedding

My young friend Miriam was marrying her heart's desire Eric and she asked me to make them their wedding cake. She asked for something non-traditional. She didn't want a tiered cake. She wanted two cakes to feed about 80 guests. And they both love chocolate.

So I made two floral cakes. One was standard chocolate; the other was chocolate orange.

And so they got married, cut the cake, danced the night away and hopefully will live happily ever after...

Triplets birthday cakes

My friends had triplets and asked me to make a cake for their girls six years ago.
The party theme was cowgirls and cowboys. I jumped at the chance!

The following year they had a disco theme. I matched the cake to the image on the invitation.

Then they had a Star Wars-themed party. I made a giant Chewbacca.

Harry Potter was the theme du jour the following year. I made The Monster Book of Monsters cake.

Lord of the Rings was last year's theme so I made a Hobbit hole cake.

And now the girls have turned ten and last weekend they celebrated with a Peanuts cake.
What fun.
