Early Bird

Around here, red-winged blackbirds don't normally show up until the end of March, generally a few weeks ahead of the robins. Now that many robins overwinter here now, red-wings are the real harbingers of spring. This fellow showed up under my feeders on March 6, the earliest I've ever seen one. Could spring really be here? The days are getting warm enough!

You have to wonder why the birds are in a rush to come north, even if the winters are a bit milder. He looks happy at your feeder.

Yea I started hearing their song last few days, I was wondering about that, why robins get here before anything is even green, I figure its to get a jump on the competition for food since the snow melts revealing ground and maybe a few frozen bugs :)
