Fish 'N' Chips

Richard and my "staycation" last week included a lunch out in Cornwall to Ye Old English Fish 'N Chip Shop in Cornwall, Ontario, about a 30 minute drive south of here. It doesn't look like much from the outside...

...or the inside for that matter.

But you know it's the real thing when the waitress has a British accent and they offer a choice of white and malt vinegar for the chips.

And they make their own coleslaw on the spot. I had never seen this contraption before...a large cake mixer with a grater attached to the top of it.

We had the special of the day: Alaskan Whitefish and 6 breaded shrimp with chips for $7.25. It was really fantastic.

Too totally cool! You should visit all the food places out there and report back. Fascinating stuff. Wish I was there.

Yum, the fish and chips look good! What a cool restaurant. Our one and only fish and chips place in my neighborhood recently went out of business after about twenty years ... victim of the economy, I guess. Hope you had fun on your staycation.

My parents were English/Irish, I grew up with fish and chips every Friday, and I LOVE THIS PLACE! Best fish and chips in Canada. Did you see my old blog post on it?

I was in fact there for dinner on Saturday with our out-of-town guests. We all pigged out on haddock, halibut, cod, and Alaskan whitefish. And I love their coleslaw.

The owners came from England a couple of decades back, and they and their grown son run the place. The husband was peeling apples for pie while we were there.

Now I'm craving fish and chips again... halibut is my choice! Glad you went and checked them out. MmmmmMMMmmmm!
