Saw a snapping turtle crossing the road this week. Very cool but I know they can really "snap" their jaws and their necks can come way out, so I wasn't about to carry him. By the time we got back from shopping, he had made his way to the river. Phew!

Good call. I saw a painted one on the back road yesterday and just left it so it could continue on crossing as it was close to the other side. Lots of swampy areas around here and many, many turtles.
That's a big one. We saw a snapping turtle on the road last Sunday, but it was a bit smaller. It must be the season when they are looking for places to lay their eggs.
