Yesterday I started my annual trek to look for evidence of spring. This year it seems earlier than ever. With a thaw in January that lasted three weeks, above average temperatures in February (and virtually no snow), everything is looking pretty rosy now in March. Check out this strawberry shoot. In March!
And those infernal day lilies that I curse in the summer because of how fast they grow and spread are, in March, oohed and ahhed at when their first green shoots poke through the cold ground. Spring is on our doorstep.
My irises are coming to life! It's unbelievable. And that strawberry is something else. The chickens are so happy with this weather.
ReplyDeleteAmazing and so very encouraging. Nice too that we aren't having to turn on the lights as early either!
ReplyDeleteWow. I will have to go out and see if there are any strawberry shoots in our garden. I haven't seen any lilies or anything else coming up yet here and it's warmer!
ReplyDeleteTotally inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting those wonderful signs of spring!
Ronna, amazing....and encouriging. However I do get concerned should we have another cold snap or major snow fall in the next couple weeks!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHowever, these plants are surley used to unpredictable Canadian winters!!! and thrive in spite of them.

Just went and did a plant census here. Nothing. Zero. Still 8-10 inches of snow on the garden... sigh.
ReplyDeleteStill snow on the ground here in Wisconsin but with temps in the 40s F, it won't be long 'til we see some Spring! :D I love seeing signs of it, especially in Toronto (very similar weather as us!)
