Yum, Yum, Yum

On our way back from Selkirk Shores State Park we spotted a huge, outdoor chicken barbecue so we had to stop.

Richard discussed their technique for cooking. Use only Kingsford briquettes and use a rub and not a marinade for the chicken.

We split a chicken dinner...

..which was incredibly tasty and moist. The sides were what they called "salted potatoes" (yum) and the baked beans were yummy too.

The Game Room behind me didn't feature any venison or moose meat but more like Nintendo-type games.

All of this took place in front of Colossal Ice Cream in Pulaski, New York.

Since it was in the mid-70s (about 22C) outside, we decided we should finish off our meal with a cone.

Richard had chocolate...

...I had Panda Paws.

A Diversion...

On our way home from Ithaca, NY, we turned off Interstate 81 at Pulaski to visit Selkirk Shores State Park. We had a short hike through the woods...

...and then continued along the shores of Lake Ontario to a pier where folks were fishing for salmon. (Apparently they stock the Salmon River there with a million salmon!!)

A couple of horseback riders took their horses for a wade in the water.

I spotted a Monarch butterfly sunning itself on the sandy shore.

I couldn't quite give him a hug but I gave him a little lift instead.

Ithaca Farmers Market

Richard and I made a quick weekend visit to Ithaca, New York to visit my sister and family. On Saturday morning we went over to the Ithaca Farmers Market. It is a really happening place! (To see a few of Richard's photos, click here.)

There is so much organic produce...

...and heritage apples as well as other fabulous fruit available.

At lunchtime the place is buzzing...they offer a myriad of things to eat like Cuban food...

...and fabulous, organic baked goods.

Macro Mamas had a lineup for its fantastic lunch.

The market is on the edge of Cayuga Lake so people sat on the edge of a dock eating their lunch...and feeding the ducks

Besides food there were tons of plants to choose from.

And there were, as the sign says, Plenty of Posies.

It was hard to choose what to buy.

Imagine a bouquet of these beauties?

In the end we brought my sister back a small bunch of vibrant zinnias...my favourite.

Meanwhile, we were going back to my sis's place for lunch so we had a light snack...

...an artichoke baked into a cheese-covered bun.

We sat on a parkbench in the dappled sunlight, looking at the water. A perfect way to spend a few hours.

Fall Festival

The Fall Festival at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum takes place this Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. Last year, Richard and I ran the photo booth where we dressed folks in pioneer garb and took their photo, then made it sepia to look old fashioned. In case you're wondering, every year the festival also runs the largest zucchini contest. Here I am with my 4th prize, runner up from last year.

And Then There Were Five...

Alongside the roadway, hidden among the reeds is a small pond belonging to my neighbour. His four domestic ducks spend their time swimming there. Sometimes during the day I can hear them quacking while I'm painting. Kind of nice. Lately, they seem to have made a new friend.

Me and...

It seems I spend much of my time with at least one cat, this time with my big bruiser, Cinnamon.

Most of the time it's a handful of cats: the calicos Nutmeg and Cookie with Cinnamon.

Here's Jack, a stray who showed up here one autumn day and along with her sister Jill, got adopted by a wonderful family in Montreal.

When I heard the Fran had adopted kittens, I just had to go over and check them out. Cuteness for sure!

And here's a photo of me with Richard's cats Barney and Skanoo. Barney looks none too pleased with me, now does he?

Richard snapped this one just last weekend. Barney still looks a little miffed. I guess I just want to hold him too much. I can't help myself...

Murphy & Midge

The mice are running scared over at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum in Dunvegan. Guarding the buildings are two rescue cats, formerly from Scotland. They now live in a house right across the street from the grounds of the museum and visit everyday. The senior cat is Murphy, who is 17-years old.

And his brother Midge is 14. And although he only has one eye, he's still a helluva mouser.

We decided to honour their good work with a nice sign and to offer them a dish of water to slake their thirst.

Getting them to stop and have a drink is another thing. They're often in the fields doing their duty or tagging along after a visitor touring the museum.

Really Big Show

The show on Saturday was tons of fun. Thanks to everyone who dropped by. Was fun, eh?

There was plenty of stuff to look at...

...and good snacks to munch on.

Sylvia, my 91-year-old aunt (on the left) from Ottawa, attended as did my friend Janet from nearby Alexandria. They had a good visit. We all had a great day and now I'm going to pack up and exhale!

Ceramic Show

I've laid out all my painted ceramics...

...and am ready for the games to begin.

The show is at my place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you need directions e-mail me: ronna@mogelon.com

I even have an "oops" table of things that didn't fire well or things that are "as is" or old stock that I want to move.

And if you come for a visit, I'll pour you a spot of tea. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. Sure hope you can make it.
