Blood red super moon

Last night I went out to see the lunar eclipse. Light clouds appeared when the eclipse began. Oh pooh.

But then it cleared and it indeed was a super moon. Blood red at the height of the eclipse. Shot with my point-and-shoot so not perfect...but you get the idea. Very cool.

Late summer vacation in PEC

Our summer vacation (in September -- the best time to go on vacation as far as I'm concerned), started with a weekend in Kingston with my two besties. We had some great meals and took the Thousand Island boat tour. Fun!

Then we headed west and took the Glenora ferry to Prince Edward County (PEC). The Lake in the Mountain is said to be one of the smallest Ontario Provincial Parks around. Maybe, but it has a heck of a view!

Right next door is the Miller House, where we went for a drink...

They brew their own Lake of the Mountain beer -- six kinds -- and you get this view!

And a September vacation? Usually great weather and not many people around. Perfect.

We visited Birdhouse City, with 100 or so birdhouses, many reproductions of famous architecture.

We visited a the County Cider Co. that had an amazing view.

 They also grew grapes!

 Richard amongst the apples...

And we went to a wine tasting at Sandbanks Winery.

We brought some of what we tasted home.

The piece de la resistance was Sandbanks Provincial Park.

It was like being at the ocean.

And the only other creatures we were competing with were the one-legged sleeping geese.

Wild in the Kitchen, again!

Fifteen years ago my book Wild in the Kitchen was published. Recently, the publishers decided to print a second edition and create an e-book too. I've decided to celebrate with a book signing at our local cafe. If any of you are in the area, please drop in.

An American Girl in Paris

I wonder, are you getting sick of all my cake posts lately? It seems like months have gone by since I did cakes and then all of a sudden, I have several cakes to do at the same time! Life's like that I guess.
Maeve celebrated her ninth birthday by having an American Girl party. Apparently, the American Girl for 2015 is Grace Thomas, a gal who goes to Paris accompanied by her French bulldog "Bonbon" and opens up a patisserie.
This cake is my version of Grace Thomas's baked offerings, as well as her doggy, all made of fondant. And the cake you might ask? French vanilla, naturellement!

Music cake

I seem to be on a roll here...More cake posting. My friend Anick's little daughter turned 5 last weekend.

She's just learning how to play the cello, so Anick thought a music theme would be fun.

Cake time

Grace asked for a pink-maned unicorn sitting on a rainbow. I figured a 12-year-old might get a kick out of a rainbow made of Smarties. I was right!

Meanwhile, Peggy celebrated her big day by locking up her guests at Escape Manor, where a series of clues led them to a key for escaping.
Her cake had her beloved pets wishing her a Happy Birthday.
