It's a Jungle Out There

There's a lot of wildlife out there this time of year. This is the first time I've seen the male cardinal all winter. The American Goldfinches who are buffy-coloured all winter are starting to moult and their summer yellow feathers are appearing.

And at night: The flying squirrel must have told a friend about the nighttime all-you-can-eat sunflower seed bar.

Love those flat tails! A third flyer jumped on top of the feeder and scared these two off it.

And the raccoon returned. He fell off the bird feeder so decided to attempt the suet block.

  2. Ronna, you must feel just like Snow White with all your woodland friends visiting. Delightful pictures.

  3. So the Goldfinches are moulting in your neck of the woods are they? Yipee! This must mean that spring is finally on the way.
P.S. I wish I'd had my camera handy to get a shot of the raccoon that got into our garage the other night, but I was so petrified I had to get John out of bed to chase him/her out.

  4. I just had my first cardinal a couple of weeks ago too. Last year we had four! This winter, nothing until March.

I had no idea flying squirrels came to feeders. That's so neat. I've never seen one in the wild.
